The original objective was to create more hiring opportunities for JR UX talent. My research led us to create these opportunities by creating a platform to help make that process more effective and efficient.
Research and compare UXUI bootcamps and UXUI portfolio programs to understand the JR UX talent industry, talent pools, and to assess if students need more education and support around portfolios.

I sent a digital survey to social impact facebook groups, talent management/HR slack groups, and LinkedIn. I found Hiring Managers, Recruiters, Developers, Designers who have hired UXUI designers.
8 Survey Responses :3 Senior Software Engineers, 1 Sr UX Designer, 2 External Staffing Agency Recruiters, 2 Internal Recruiters
5 user interviews with Participants: 1 Senior Software Engineer, 1 Sr UX Designer, 2 External Staffing Agency Recruiters, 1 Internal Recruiters in 30-60 minute zoom calls.
Hiring managers are overwhelmed with Jr UXUI talent, but they don’t have an efficient way to assess talent and find a standout candidate for their team.

Testers were confused about the significance of the candidate profile thumbnail on the results page. It represents one of the most core features of the product, so it was necessary to make it more user friendly. I changed the “play” icon to a “magnify glass” to prompt users to click to look closer at the thumbnail. I made the thumbnail larger to signify its importance on the results page. I changed the icon from a video snapshot to a snapshot of a piece of their profile work.
Testers were confused that the calendar feature is a proposal of 3 times. I added more detailed language, added more step by step features for the calendar, and more copy about what to expect next in the process.
5 out of 5 testers thought the video walkthrough is an effective way to showcase candidates.
After viewing the video, 5 out of 5 testers were interested in moving forward with contacting the candidate for the next steps.
4 out of 5 testers wanted to know more about the candidate. Specifically, they wanted to know what the candidate was looking for in their next role. They suggested a formalized script of questions for the candidates to include in the video.
3 out of 5 testers wanted a feature “flag” or “save” candidates to schedule later or all at once.
5 out of 5 testers said they would move forward with the candidate. 4 out of 5 said it is more effective for candidates to receive specific a formalized script to showcase and demonstrate their experience, skills, and personality in the video walk-through.
Action Items: What deliverables would demonstrate the design process, collaboration skills, and personality of the design candidate? Create a formalized script and record three different sample videos following the script. Build out the prototype to include three candidate examples. Test the scripted videos in the second round of usability testing. Instead of asking if the manager would move forward with the candidate, create a 6-minute “challenge” for the manager to find the best candidate video out of 3.
Create a save or flag feature for Clients/Hiring Managers to save their favorite candidates in a list. Once they comprise their list of favorites, they could schedule interviews all at one time. Hiring Managers can pass the scheduling phase to their internal recruiters to save time and prioritize favorite candidates.
Action Items: Design a method for saving/flagging candidates, test it in the second round of usability testing.
